When I started writing effective business letters I found them to be one of the most difficult tasks. First, keep in mind that business letters are very different from any other type of letters that you’re use to writing. Business letters need to be extremely effective at communicating various topics and/or ideas into one streamlined thought for a quick, easy read. That is a big task if you've never written one. Also, keep in mind that those who read your business letters will be evaluating you and your company based on your writing abilities. If you can’t write a great business letter they might not do business with you because they might think your abilities are lacking in other parts of your business. Think of your business letters and other collateral business materials as your first impression with a person or company. You always want to make a good first impression and your business letters should be no different.
When promoting your business opportunity you need to follow a set of basic guidelines.
First, determine the purpose of the letter and map out your desired direction of its content. Establishing the purpose for your letter will guide you to the second step of listing the requirements of your letter. Next, make sure to keep it professional. Be as specific as possible in your letter(s). Lastly, proof read your letter(s) and then ask a friend, family member, or multiple people to proofread it as well. You will get valuable feedback especially if you can’t afford a professional proofreader.
