The prerequisite for buying a business opportunity, or into any other proven business model, and growing it into a successful enterprise of your very own certainly doesn’t demand any particular level of higher education, not in most instances anyway. However, that’s not to say that earning those extra credentials won’t give you a leg up in your particular industry and in your overall desire to be as successful as you can possibly be.

For many people, furthering their education for whatever the various personal and professional reasons may be is a major goal, so knowing what schools rank highest when it comes to entrepreneurship matters. Last week’s annual release of the Top 50 Schools for Entrepreneurship Programs by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine certainly gives them a great place to start.

This year’s annual survey names the top 25 undergraduate and top 25 graduate programs for entrepreneurship education in the nation, and includes six schools that made the list for the first time. Among them, quite surprisingly, are some heavy hitters that many of us would have thought were always along for the ride, including Harvard (in the third spot on the graduate list) and Stanford (now making the cut at seven on the undergrad list and six on the grad list). Once again, Babson College in Massachusetts ranks first among undergraduate institutions, as well as second among the graduate programs behind University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

“(Students of all these schools that made this year’s list) have extraordinary opportunities to network with established entrepreneurs, interact on teams that turn promising ideas into possible start-ups, and develop skills to launch their own successful businesses,” said Princeton Review’s Senior VP/Publisher, Robert Franek in a statement late last week. Following up those sentiments was Amy Cosper, Entrepreneur magazine’s VP and editor in chief, who had this to offer: “Our annual ranking provides current and potential entrepreneurs with an overview of the best programs out there that will help them cultivate their passions.” And undoubtedly, we would add, make the most out of any and all business opportunities that might come their way.
