How To Track Your Home-Based Business Web Traffic To Increase Profit

If you don’t know how to track your existing website traffic, you’re missing out on a critical marketing element that can aid you in many ways, not the least of which is sales. You can turn visitors into customers using a few easy tools. You just need to know what they are and how to apply them.

The very lifeblood of your home-based business could depend on it, so listen up my friends.

Tracking is important because it allows you to improve your website based on the actual browsing behavior of your potential customers. Home-based businesses with a website have tremendous advantages over those that don’t. They have quantifiable ways to measure nearly every detail about their potential customers from how long they spent browsing and where they came from to what pages they viewed, what time of day or night they browsed, and much, much more.

Just knowing how visitors found your site is critically important because you are most likely spending money marketing your site in any number of ways, from pay per click, SEO, press releases, and e-mail newsletters just to name a few. If you don’t know how well each of your individual marketing and advertising strategies is paying off for you, how can you possibly gauge what is a good investment, what should continue, or even what to tweak to improve performance?

Connecting metrics to marketing strategies will allow you to grow your home-based business by developing effective plans to increase your websites effectiveness. You can improve the time visitors spend on your site, make navigation easier for people who are browsing so they get to the content you want them to get find, improve  conversation rates, facilitate communication with your potential customers, and even improve the performance of under performing pages.

I like to call this self-marketing which can substantially increase your revenue. But it only works if it’s applied correctly, and that only happens when you understand your site metrics in relation to the goals you have set for the end-users and overall sales targets of your website. Trust me, each tweak you make to your site could potentially make you thousands!

Many home-based business owners assume that everyone who lands at their site will read every word, absorb everything easily, download a free e-book, sign-up for a newsletter and do whatever else it is that they ultimately want them to do. It’s never that simple.

A website is really never “completed” actually. It’s an organic work in progress that can take years to refine. Trust me when I say that your site isn’t as good as it could be in ways you haven’t even thought of yet. In fact, it may be costing you big. Maybe your order form scares some people away. Maybe your site navigation isn’t intuitive enough. Maybe your site has a bug of some sort. Maybe you have typos. Maybe a few minor tweaks to your buy page would change everything for the better. Who knows?

What I do know is that it's easy to use metrics to increase your site’s usability and increase your sales, if you know where to get started and you’re willing to dig in. Applying what you learn to your home-based business model is a step that will take some time, that’s true. But it will pay huge dividends as you grow.
