Becoming a small business, business opportunity or franchise owner is a big decision on many levels. However, understanding its potential impact on your loved ones is perhaps the most critical component.

Meg Cadoux Hirshberg knows that as well as anyone. In fact, she’s a recognized expert on the topic of entrepreneurship and its effects on the family, and rightly so. As the wife of Stonyfield organic yogurt cofounder Gary Hirshberg, she and her children have experienced the ups and downs of business ownership firsthand over the past three decades.

In May of 2009, Hirshberg began sharing her hard-earned wisdom and insights as the wife of a now incredibly successful entrepreneur with Inc. magazine readers in her column called “Balancing Acts.” She’s now expanded on that concept in her new book, For Better or For Work: A Survival Guide for Entrepreneurs and Their Families, citing the overwhelmingly positive response of her readers as her primary inspiration. “I’ve been fairly inundated with letters―from both entrepreneurs and spouses―since I started writing the column,” she said in a recent interview. “Mostly, they write to say how grateful they are to know they aren’t alone, and to thank me for getting it so right.”

Tagged as (one of the) 12 Most Anticipated Business Books of 2012 by CNBC.com, For Better or For Work “offers tools, suggestions and strategies for making your family life successful while you are trying to grow a business,” she said. “It’s the book I wish Gary and I had had all along.”

For Better or For Work: A Survival Guide for Entrepreneurs and Their Families is now available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
